The State of Qatar participated in the Fourth Meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee in Charge of International Action to Confront Illegal Israeli Policies and Measures in the Occupied City of Jerusalem, which was held on Thursday in Amman in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The delegation of the State of Qatar to the meeting was headed by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
During the meeting, His Excellency considered that Israeli occupation forces storming Al-Aqsa Mosque and arresting worshippers inside it is the latest addition to the repeated violations of the sanctity of the mosque, a provocation to the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world in the blessed month of Ramadan and a flagrant violation of human rights and international conventions.
His Excellency affirmed that the repeated and systematic attacks by the occupation against the defenseless Palestinian people and the sanctities of Muslims is the result of the repeated impunity of the occupation, the failure of the international community to the Palestinian cause and in implementing the provisions of international law and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
His Excellency reiterated the State of Qatar's firm and supportive position on the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent state on his homeland, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stressing the State of Qatar's rejection of all escalatory measures taken by the Israeli occupation forces, and calling for the need to work to calm down and reduce escalation and tension.
During their third meeting at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo in March 2022, the ministers of the member states of the committee affirmed the importance of continuing to perpetuate the joint action to confront the illegal Israeli policies, which represents a violation of international law and undermines the foundations of peace, including demolishing homes, building and expanding settlements, confiscating land and displacing Palestinians. This leads to the impossibility of establishing a viable and geographically contiguous Palestinian state.
The ministers also stressed the importance of supporting the steadfastness of the people of Jerusalem, and making all efforts to stand in the face of Israeli measures aimed at changing the historical and legal status quo in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
The Ministers reaffirmed that East Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state, and rejected any attempt to detract from the right to Palestinian sovereignty over it and any unilateral measures affecting the legal status of Jerusalem.
The ministers stressed the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian sanctities, and to reject all practices aimed at compromising this situation.
The attendees affirmed the importance of the role of the Hashemite guardianship over the Arab, Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and its role in protecting these holy sites and preserving their Arab, Islamic and Christian identity and its historical and legal situation.
